Hunter B. Fraser, a 44-year-old Californian, planned to hike for forty kilometres and camp inside Olympic National Park for two nights.
He parked his car at the Deer Ridge Trailhead on Monday, according to a press statement from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, and was not seen again until the afternoon of the same day, west of the Deer Park Campground.

Hunter parked his car at the Deer Ridge Trailhead on Monday, June 5, and planned to hike a 40-mile journey with two overnight stays, most likely a loop (precise route unclear), beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 8.
On Wednesday, June 7, he was expected to be back in Seattle around noon. He hasn’t been heard from since Tuesday morning, about 6:15, when his last texts to other individuals arrived. He made no indication of a problem at the time. His car is still at the trailhead, and SAR has been activated by Clallam County.
He left with a well-stocked grey backpack and a teal Mountain Hardwear “Solitude” one-person tent. He enjoys difficult terrain and is a very skilled solo hiker. He has a trim build, stands at 6’4″, and often dons spectacles.
