How Did Richard Marcinko Die? What Was His Cause Of Death?

The founder of the commando who killed Osama bin Laden has died at the age of 81 probably due to a heart attack.

Richard Marcinko, the Vietnam veteran founder of Team 6 of the Navy SEALs, the commando who killed Osama bin Laden, has died at the age of 81, possibly of a heart attack. Thanks to him, Team 6 has acquired fame in the collective imagination: his stories and tales, collected in various books, have fascinated the world and created a myth around the elite commando.

After the failure in 1980 of the mission to rescue 53 American hostages in Iran, the Navy asked Marcinko to create a SEAL unit capable of responding quickly to crises related to terrorism. The chosen name, Team 6, was an attempt at Cold War disinformation: there were in fact only two teams of the SEALs and Marcinko thought of calling it Team 6 hoping to confuse the Russians and push them to overestimate the American forces.

Disdainful of the rules, Marcinko created the image of an unconventional Team 6 in which drinking all together was an element of unity. For years, Team 6 has been entrusted with the most dangerous and difficult military operations: it is the only one of the departments trained to ‘chase’ nuclear weapons in case they end up in the hands of enemies. The role of Team 6 in the killing of Osama bin Laden raised the group’s fame even more, which has become the inspiration for books and films.

After retiring in 1989, Commander Marcinko began a career as a writer, motivator and military consultant. Born in 1940, Marcinko did not even finish high school preferring to join the Navy in 1958. In 1967 he was sent to Vietnam with Team 2 of the Navy Seal receiving many awards.
