Atlanta news anchor Jovita Moore has died at age 53.
Jovita worked at WSB-TV, who announced the death of the journalist through their social networks.
“With a broken heart, we announce the death of our beloved Jovita Moore. Please keep her children, her mother, and the entire Channel 2 family in your prayers,” the outlet said on Twitter.
According to WSB-TV, Jovita died Thursday night after seven months of battling brain cancer.
“Jovita had been with Channel 2 Action since 1988 … in April, doctors discovered two masses in Jovita’s brain. After surgery, they diagnosed her with glioblastoma, the most common type of brain cancer,” he said. the television network in a statement.
According to WSB-TV, there is, as of yet, no cure for glioblastoma, only treatment to slow it down.
Jovita was originally from New York, but according to the network she worked for, she was proud to call Atlanta her home.
She earned a master of science degree in television journalism from the Columbia University School of Journalism in New York. She had a bachelor of arts degree from Bennington College in Vermont, WSB said.
According to the fellow presenter, Justin Farmer, Jovita Moore, the Atlanta news anchor died surrounded by her loved ones and in peace.
She is survived by her mother, her two wonderful sons, and her stepdaughter, whom she called the most important achievements of her life.
