Gail Villani and Kurt Villani, the owners of GUI’s Ace Hardware and the beloved resident of Grand Island, New York tragically died in a car crash. The incident occurred on Pre-Thanksgiving travel day and the celebration turned into a situation of mourning. The investigation is under active by Niagara Police as the tragic event left the community devastated and heartbroken.
How did the incident happen?
Gail and Kurt Villani were widely recognized for their family business started in 1987. They were considered the pillars of the community. However, their lives have been cut short in a tragic accident that occurred on Wednesday around 11:30 am. According to the reports, it has been identified that the vehicle was at high speed, which resulted in a loss of control of the vehicle due to which the car collided and engulfed in fire which then escalated to the air. The authorities informed that the accident occurred on the Rainbow Bridge, which connects the US and Canada.
According to the authorities, it was initially stated that the incident may have resulted due to the involvement of terrorism, but it has been dispelled by the FBI by stating that there was no involvement of explosive materials or terrorism-related events found at the incident’s scene.
In a press conference, Governor Kathy Hochul cleared the confusion of the accident related to terrorism and stated that the tragic explosion occurred on the US side of the border, not on the Canadian side of the border. He also stated that there were no signs of terrorism involved in the explosion.
The explosion resulted in the deaths of both individuals, in which one person belongs to western New York. According to reports, a booth agent was also involved in an explosion and sustained injuries however, on a later day he was discharged from the hospital.
The destructive situation resulted in the closing of bridge crossings from western New York into the US for the proper investigation of the incident. The process of investigation process has been facing difficulties due to the excessive destruction of the vehicle, with debris spread around 13 booths and the licensed number plate was untraceable due to the condition of the vehicle.
Authorities have been highly alerted on the multiple border crossings and transportation hubs due to safety measures.
The incident is actively under process to identify the exact circumstances of the accent. President Joe Biden responded to the accident and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also responded stating for a thorough investigation with proper safe measures across the crossing of border.
