Barbara Stanley, Ph.D., a professor of medical psychology at Columbia University, passed away tragically and unexpectedly on January 26, 2023. She was one of the most well-known activists involved in the fight against suicide.

Although the cause of her death is not disclosed, the family may later make funeral arrangements public. Everybody is missing Barbara Stanley, remembering her, paying respect to her on social media, and praying for her eternal life.

If we look back on her career, she was a fantastic woman with many accomplishments. Barbara was a professor of medical psychology at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons. She worked in the department of psychiatry.

She was also the New York State Psychiatric Institute’s Director of the Suicide Prevention Training, Implementation, and Evaluation for the Center for Practice Innovation and a Research Scientist in Molecular Imaging and Neuropathology. Stress, Inflammation, Aggression, and Emotion Regulation in Suicidal Behavior was Project 5’s leader at the Conte Center for Suicide Prevention.

Several important honors have been given to Dr. Stanley, including the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Research Award and the Suicide Prevention Center of New York Research Award.

She has co-authored and edited several volumes and authored over 200 papers and book chapters. She also serves on numerous editorial boards and is the director of the Archives of Suicide Research.
