A famous Pakistani journalist, Mr Arshad Sharif, was shot dead in Nairobi on Sunday night in mysterious circumstances.
Initial reports indicate that Mr Sharif was traveling back to Nairobi from Magadi with his driver when he met his death at a police roadblock.
The news of his death was first announced on social media by his wife Javeria Siddique, causing an uproar as Pakistani netizens tried to understand the circumstances surrounding his death.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered his condolences to the writer’s family.

They were ordered to stop their car at the barrier
On that fateful night, the police claimed that once they entered the Kiserian-Magadi road from the dirt road, they were asked to stop but they refused. Then the police opened fire. That is according to the media reports in the country that claim to see the police report about the incident
The police started an investigationAfter the news about Sharif’s death, the police in Kenya have confirmed that they have started an investigation into his death.
Police spokesman Bruno Shioso says they are investigating the circumstances that led to Mr Sharif’s death.
IPOA also announced to start of an investigation
Kenya’s Independent Police Oversight Authority (Ipoa) says it has launched an investigation into the killing of prominent Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif.
Local media reported that the killing of Mr Sharif by the police was a case of mistaken identity.
Ipoa, a civil body, was created to monitor the work of the police.
Its head, Ann Makori, has told journalists in the capital, Nairobi, that a special team to find immediate responses has been sent to investigate the murder of the writer.
The citizen TV channel has posted on its Twitter page a video of Ms Makori’s speech:

His death has shocked many, especially in his country Pakistan
The award-winning journalist strongly opposed the ongoing political developments in Pakistan. Sharif specialized in investigative journalism and covered many political events in his country for national and international news organizations.
Sharif, a fierce critic of the Pakistani government, left the country earlier this year after a series of sedition cases were filed against him.
The Pakistan Journalists Association wants an inquiry into his death. Many people in the country through social media have expressed surprise at the situation that led to his death and wants an investigation to be carried out
