The 23-year-old singer is the latest victim of violence in Mexico. Late last month, corridos interpreter Alex Quintero was also shot and killed during a private party in Sonora.
The Mexican regional singer Julio Verdugo was shot dead on Sunday, May 9, in the middle of the street, in front of his house in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
The 23-year-old artist was shot inside the Dodge Chrysler truck he was driving , reported the Mexican newspaper Sin Embargo. The attack occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on a boulevard in the Los Huizaches neighborhood, in the capital of Sinaloa, the news site added.
The vocalist of the group called “Julio Verdugo y los 3 de Culiacán” was shot when he was leaving his home , Milenio reported.
The attacker fled after shooting the singer. Authorities found the artist dead in the pilot’s seat and found handgun shells around the vehicle, the site added.
Verdugo, interpreter of ‘My gift’, his most popular song on YouTube, is the latest victim of violence in Mexico.
Many regional Mexican and group artists have died violently in Mexico in the last three decades. Luis Mendoza, Sergio Vega ‘El Shaka’, Valentín Elizalde and Sergio Gómez, from KPaz de la Sierra , are some of these artists. Even 17 members of the El Kombo Kolombia gang were massacred in Nuevo León in 2013.
Late last month, corridos singer Alex Quintero was also shot to death during a private party in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, the site added.
Quintero, a native of Obregón, was assassinated on April 25 at around four in the morning by attackers who arrived in a truck.
Lifeguards arrived at the scene of the attack, but were unable to save the 22-year-old singer-songwriter. The shooting also injured two.
The attackers fled and have not been identified.
Quintero was known for songs like: ‘I’m not going to crack’, ‘I want to tell you’ and ‘The third attempt’.
