Benito Mata started boxing at the age of 16 and in his career as a professional fighter, he won 60 fights. When he retired from professional boxing, he continued in the sport of his loves, now as a coach where he maintained arduously preparing physically and mentally high-performance athletes for more than 25 years at the Municipal Auditorium of Tampico.
At the same time, he was part of the Boxing and Wrestling Commission, occupying the position of Secretary of Records; He was also a professional and amateur boxing referee and in the 1980s he was coach of the Municipal Selection of Tampico.
In addition, between 1980 and 1985 he directed the Tamaulipas boxing team, and among his achievements as a coach, he managed to train 40 national, state, and municipal champions; achievements that were recognized only in December in an event in his honor organized by the “Guerrero del Rey” Olympic Boxing School.
