Tor Eckhoff Died: What Happened To Him?

The favorite of Internet users Tor Apetor Eckhoff, who has been publishing video materials on the Internet for years, is dead. The man recorded crazy exploits on the ice, which the audience of millions was eager to watch. What happened? What was the cause of the death of a popular YouTuber?

Eckhoff went through the ice outside Kongsberg on Friday. He died Saturday night.

On Friday, a man was picked up by Jakobs Dam outside Kongsberg and then transported to Ulleval hospital by air ambulance. On Sunday, Erik Gunnerød in the South-East police district confirms that the man died on Saturday night.

Later Sunday, the police also confirm that it was Tor Eckhoff (57), known as Apetor, who died.

Eckhoff was alone at Jakobs Dam, where he walked through the ice. He was found by rescue divers, and life-saving efforts were carried out on the spot, the police write in a press release.

Eckhoff is a well-known YouTube phenomenon, which posts videos under the name Apetor. His videos have a total of over 388 million views, and he has over a million subscribers to the channel. The last time he posted a video was five days ago.

Recorded video

On-duty lawyer, Thomas Kragelund, confirms to TV 2 that they assume that Eckhoff was to record a new YouTube video when he died. However, he does not want to justify why.

The emergency services were alerted by a witness who heard cries for help. The person in question did not witness the incident itself.

The police also do not know what went wrong this time.

We consider it a tragic accident, says Kragelund.

In 2011, Eckhoff was interviewed by TV 2 in connection with the YouTube channel. He said that he thrives when he skates and runs around on the ice.

But I’m not crazy then. I’m just very happy to have fun, Eckhoff said in 2011.

And huge legend

Youtuber Jonas Lihaugen Fredriksen says it was very sad to hear about the death, and describes Eckhoff as a nice guy.

Apetor was like a huge legend that many youtubers looked up to. He was very big abroad, but everyone who was in the YouTube community knew who he was, says Fredriksen.

He himself met Eckhoff in 2019, in connection with the recording of a YouTube video for the NRK concept 4ETG.

He beat me like an extremely normal and nice guy, and it was extremely cool to meet him. He was not self-absorbed and had no high thoughts of himself. It is incredibly sad that he has passed away, says Fredriksen.

I think mostly of his family. It is very sad that this should happen to such a person. Very sad to lose such a unique content creator as Tor was.
