Opera singer Teresa Berganza died at the age of 87. The artist, who delighted millions of viewers around the world, was one of the most important of the twentieth century of her genre. The news was spread through a statement in international media shared by the artist’s relatives, however, there were cultural entities that also lamented the death of the mezzo-soprano, such as the Círculo de Bellas Artes- CASA Europa.
On the official Twitter of the private cultural entity, it was described, “Teresa Berganza has died today at the age of 87. The opera singer, one of the most important of the 20th century, was much loved in this institution, where she received our Gold Medal in 2018. Our condolences to all family and friends”. The mezzo-soprano had an impressive career and came to perform at the most important international venues such as the Royal Opera House in London, the Metropolitan in New York, and the Scala in Milan, among others.
According to the official page “Opera Word”, the singer did not make an extensive catalog of characters, however, she came to interpret relevant “roles” such as Carmen by Bizet and Rossini.
Thanks to the professionalism with which she carried out her profession, she was awarded relevant prizes in the artistic world, among which the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts (1991), the National Music Award (1996), and the French Legion of Honor stand out. (2012).
In 1994 she became the first woman elected as a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (Spain).
Berganza made her first performance at the Ateneo de Madrid on February 16, 1967, with a recital in which she performed the cycle of Schumann Frauenliebe und Leben (Love and life of a woman), the page indicates.
