Songwriter Lucy Simon, sister of singer Carly Simon, famous for the 1970s hit “You’re so vain”, died at the age of 82 on Thursday (20).
Lucy was battling breast cancer, a family spokesperson announced to the American press, and died at her home in Piedmont, NY.
She was one of the first songwriters to have a Broadway show, when “The Secret Garden” opened in April 1991. Starring Rebecca Luker, Mandy Patinkin, Alison Fraser and Daisy Eagan, it is based on the children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The musical had 709 performances on Broadway, won two Tonys (considered the theater’s Oscars) and has been performed all over the world.
Simon was born in New York on May 5, 1940, and was the eldest of four children.
