Jordan Groggs, the rapper also known as Stepa J. Groggs, and a member of the Phoenix rap group “Injury Reserve,” died at the age of 32, according to a tweet posted on the group’s social media accounts.
Groggs, who had four children, was considered a mentor and friend to many in the music industry, as many tributes on social media have indicated, causing the #RIP Groggs tag to start trending on Twitter this Wednesday. The band ” Injury Reserve ” was formed in 2013.
Groggs and a teenager and fellow rapper Nathaniel Ritchie (who was called “Ritchie with a T”) met at a Vans store in 2012, a place that was owned by Ritchie’s mother and where Groggs worked, according to NME .
Groggs mentored Ritchie and when the pair of musicians met producer Parker Corey, the popular trio was born, Pitchfork reported . The band performed with acts from other musical genres, such as punk and indie, playing on the campus of Arizona State University.
In 2016, the group released “Live from the Dentist Office,” the first mixtape, and a year later, produced “Floss,” Pitchfork reported.

A GoFundMe page created to support Groggs’ wife, Anna, and their four children, Joey, Jayden, Toph, and Ari, had already raised $ 50,000 from their $ 75,000 goal in their first seven hours of being launched. Others released song lyrics for the Injury Reserve songs that they said helped them through difficult times and thanked Groggs for his role in their creation.
In a tweet, Phonte Giallo wrote about Groggs: “We never had the opportunity to meet in person, but the love that he and his team showed me was always appreciated and reciprocated. RIP to brother Groggs of @InjuryReserve. God bless you”.
Animé, a contributor to the group, also wrote a message he posted on Instagram in memory of Groggs, in which he said, “Rest in power, the kindest soul and one of my favorite rappers. I love you Groggs. “
Groggs’ cause of death has yet to be made official.
