The actor who played the role of John Abbott between 1982 and 2016 in the television series “The Young and the Restless” lost his life this Tuesday, November 9 in Los Angeles after an illness. The CBS channel which broadcasts the iconic show claimed that he would be “missed by the Young and the Restless family.”
American actor Jerry Douglas, better known as John Abbott in the hit television series “The Young and the Restless” passed away at the age of 88 years this Tuesday, November 9.
For more than 30 years, he was part of the cast of the show which reached the threshold of 20,000 episodes in 2020 and stacked for four additional seasons. Then septuagenarian had bowed out in 2006 when his character died. The actor still appeared regularly in new episodes of the series through flashbacks.
Over the course of his career, Jerry Douglas has also appeared in supporting roles in “Melrose Place”, “Cold Case” or “Barnaby Jones”.
“He will be sadly missed”
Officializing the announcement of his death, the CBS channel specified that his death had occurred “as a result of a brief illness” . “He will be sadly missed by the family on this series,” the channel added in a tweet.

“We were lucky to be able to collaborate with an actor of his caliber,” reacted executive producer Anthony Morina in a press release, relayed by The Hollywood reporter. “His contribution to the ‘Young and the Restless’ legacy as the patriarch of the Abbott family is still felt to this day. He will be sorely missed, ”he added.
He joined the soap opera in 1982 and played the rich president of the company “Jacob Cosmetics”. His character only appeared since 2006 in rare passages.
