Is the postal service open at Christmas?
Unfortunately, here we will have to answer you with a resounding NO. Because today is a federal holiday, the USPS will not be open and the United States Postal Service will not deliver mail. However, some post office services are available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even on holidays. Most services will operate normally on Christmas Eve, that is, Thursday, December 24, but stores may have modified hours.
As for FedEx, the official ones are usually closed on the following dates: Easter, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. While they are usually open (or with modified hours) on New Year’s Eve, Christmas Eve, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Columbus Day and Veterans Day.
The USPS is experiencing high demand and parcel delays
Many of the people, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, decided to make their Christmas purchases online, therefore, the United States postal service has experienced strong demand that has delayed the shipment of packages. For this reason, Christmas gifts may not arrive on time at your doorstep, as the Postal Service offices do not provide enough.
James Boxrud, a Colorado-based USPS spokesman, said they are experiencing an all-time high volume of demand. Many postal workers are working overtime, and will even work on Christmas Eve to deliver packages.
“This week is our busiest week, our busiest month, our busiest year. We are seeing many packages ”. Said.
Additionally, the Washington Post reported that nearly 19,000 of the agency’s 644,000 workers are in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19.
