How Did Mark Lanegan Die? What Was His Cause Of Death?

Mark Lanegan, rock pioneer and co-founder of Screaming Trees, dies at 57.

Mark Lanegan was also part of Queens of the Stone Age and The Gutter Twins; he had been very sick from COVID during 2021.

Mark Lanegan, one of the most iconic musicians on the alternative rock scene and leader of the band Screaming Trees, passed away on Tuesday, February 22 at the age of 57, his representative confirmed in a statement.

In this way, he pointed out that he had died in the morning at his home located in Killarney, Ireland, for which he asked that they respect the family’s privacy at this time; however, there are no more details about it.

“Our dear friend Mark Lanegan passed away this morning at his home in Killarney, Ireland. A beloved singer, songwriter, author, and musician, he was 57 years old and is survived by his wife Shelley. No further information is available at this time. The family asks everyone to respect his privacy,” his representative wrote on Twitter.

Mark Lanegan was born on November 25, 1964, in Ellensburg, which, according to the composer himself, was a “ culturally isolated cow town, as recounted in his autobiography ‘Sing Backwards and Weep’.

His parents separated at a young age, he lived with his father and, without adult supervision, by age 12 he described himself as “a compulsive gambler, a novice alcoholic, a thief and a fan of pornography”.

However, his love for punk rock came during his teenage years when he saw a shirtless photo of Iggy Pop in an issue of Creem magazine at his local record store, where he also heard this genre of music and was amazed.

Later, he co-founded Screaming Trees in 1984 and when it broke up in 2000, Lanegan made a few duet albums with former Belle & Sebastian member Isobel Campbell, as well as The Twilight Singers, Queens of the Stone Age, Soulsavers, and The Gutter Twins.

Mark Lanegan And Covid

Although the composer’s cause of death has not been reported, in March 2021 Mark Lanegan had fought a strong battle against COVID, since he had even been in a coma due to the disease, it was also known that his health was going through ups and downs after contagion due to sequelae.

The above was told in a book he wrote called ‘Devil in a Coma’, in which he details that after the success of his first autobiographical book, he moved to Ireland in search of protection from COVID; however, he contracted the virus.
