Bobbie Lee Nelson is dead. Willie Nelson’s sister was 91 years old. The siblings have been together almost continuously for 50 years.

“We have broken hearts,” Nelson wrote on Facebook saying goodbye to his older sister.

Legendary country singer Willie Nelson said goodbye to his beloved sister, Bobbie Lee Nelson. The 91-year-old pianist accompanied her brother for two years on almost every concert tour. The musician himself provided the information on Facebook. The cause of the pianist’s death was not given.

“Her elegance, grace, beauty, and talent have made this world a better place. She was the first member of Willie’s band as its pianist and vocalist. Our hearts are broken and we will miss her so much. But we are happy that she was part of ours. Please have her family in your mind and give them the privacy they need during this time, “wrote Willie Nelson.

Bobbie Nelson was born on January 1, 1931, in Texas, and she was interested in music from an early age. When she was 5, she started learning to play the piano, and her grandfather took her to gospel performances. At just 14, she traveled with evangelists around Austin and Texas.

She appeared in her first husband’s band, Bud Fletcher and The Texans, and shortly after the breakup of the relationship began to perform solo in the so-called “honky-tonk” clubs – places with a very low reputation, where a lot of non-alcoholic people from the lower classes showed up. For this reason, she was taken from the custody of three sons. To regain her, she changed her profession – she started working in a car repair shop. When her ex-husband died in a car accident, she had a nervous breakdown.

After the accident, she got a job at a company selling Hammond organs and regained the right to custody of her sons. From 1965 to 1973, she performed in clubs again, and finally, in 1973, Willie Nelson invited her to her team. This is how she appeared on Nelson’s famous albums, incl. “The Troublemaker”, “Shotgun Willie” and “Phases and Stages”.

She also recorded five albums with a duet with Willie and one solo album – “Audiobiography” in 2008. Willie Nelson used to call his “little sister” even though she was two years her senior.
