French director Jean-Jacques Beineix is best known for the brooding love film “37°2 le matin” or “Betty blue” from 1986, the debut of actress Béatrice Dalle. Everything was aesthetically pleasing in this film: the sex, the music, the poster.
Jean-Jacques Beineix made a series of notable films in the 1980s, such as “ Diva ” from 1980 and “ La lune dans le calevel ” from ’83. In 1986 he performed “ 37°2 le matin ”, his greatest success.
The aesthetic and sensual road movie “37° le matin” (the body temperature of a pregnant woman) became internationally known under the name “ Betty Blue ”. It’s the bad ending love story of Zorg, played by Jean-Hugues Anglade, and Betty, the first role of Béatrice Dalle. Jean-Jacques Beineix also made a “director’s cut” of the film, which lasts three hours instead of two.

After the great success of “37° 2 le matin”, films by Jean-Jacques Beineix followed, which were less popular with the public, such as “Roselyne et les Lions”, “IP5: L’île aux pachydermes” or ” Mortar transfer”. The director and producer has passed away at the age of 75, after a long illness.
Born in Paris, Jean-Jacques Beineix began studying medicine before preparing for the prestigious Idhec film school (now Femis), which he just missed.
His first projects lead him to advertise. In particular, he directed the multicast anti-AIDS spot Il ne pas pas par moi. After several projects, he decides to leave the industry. “It’s good to put your talent at the service of causes”, and advertising, “it was not causing”, he explained.
Beinix received a few offers from Hollywood, which he turned down. Most recently, he mainly shot TV documentaries. He wrote an autobiography in 2006 and his first novel, Toboggan, in 2020.
